15-Minute Exercise: Personal Project Goal Setting

Exercise Description

Each participant will write a personal project goal statement and complete a brief initial assessment of the deck/dock area.

Materials Needed

  • Notebook or digital document
  • Camera (phone camera is fine)
  • Measuring tape

Exercise Steps (15 minutes)

  1. Goal Writing (5 minutes)
  2. Write one specific, measurable goal you want to achieve through this project
  3. Example: "I want to learn how to use CAD software to create a professional deck design"
  4. Example: "I want to understand the complete project management process from start to finish"

  5. Initial Assessment (5 minutes)

  6. Take 3 photos of the current deck/dock area
  7. Write down 3 observations about the current condition
  8. Note any immediate safety concerns

  9. Expectation Setting (5 minutes)

  10. Write down one thing you're most excited to learn
  11. Write down one thing you're most concerned about
  12. Share your goal with the group

Deliverable

  • Personal goal statement (1-2 sentences)
  • 3 photos with brief descriptions
  • 3 observations about current condition
  • 2 personal expectations (excitement and concern)
