Scoughxxuene 2.0 — Hull Build Final Report

Report Purpose
This report documents the complete build of the Scoughxxuene 2.0 hull — from the first session in August through the final painted hull in December. It serves as both an academic deliverable and a permanent record of the project for John's portfolio.
The report should read as a narrative of the build experience, not as a list of tasks. Include photos throughout. Write in first person.
Required Sections
1. Introduction
- What this class was and why it was undertaken
- Brief background on John's marine experience (previous classes: Deck & Dock, Intro to Marine Industry)
- Why building a boat from scratch is a meaningful next step
- Introduction to Scoughxxuene 2.0 — what the name means, why this boat
Suggested length: 1 page
2. SMART Goal
Present the semester's SMART goal as written in the curriculum, then briefly reflect: did the project meet it? (Answer this at the end — come back to this section last.)
Suggested length: Half page
3. Project Overview
- Description of the FRS 16 design (Salt Boatworks, Adam Parchman)
- What stitch-and-glue construction is and why it was chosen
- Description of the CNC plywood kit: what was included
- Technical specifications of the finished boat
- Overview of planned customizations
Suggested length: 1–2 pages, with a photo of the kit or plans
4. Materials & Equipment
- Complete materials list used throughout the build
- USA-made product sourcing: what was sourced from American manufacturers and where
- Key tools used
- Shop setup description
Suggested length: 1 page, can include a table
5. Build Planning
- How the customization design was developed
- Interior layout decisions (storage, livewell, casting deck, rod holders, accessory positions)
- USA color scheme design process
- Material procurement process
Suggested length: 1 page, include the design sketch or a photo of it
6. Build Process Log
Narrative of the build, organized by phase. For each phase, describe: - What the work involved - What was most challenging - What was most satisfying - At least 2–3 photos per phase with captions

(Sessions 4–6, August 27 – September 10)
Phase 3: Framing & Epoxy Seams
(Sessions 7–9, September 17 – October 1)
Phase 4: Epoxy Sealing & Fiberglass
(Sessions 10–12, October 8–22)
Phase 5: Custom Build-Out
(Sessions 13–15, October 29 – November 12)
Phase 6: Finishing
(Sessions 16–18, November 19 – December 10)
Suggested length: 4–6 pages total across all phases, photos integrated
7. Guest Participation Log
For every guest who participated this semester: - Guest name and relationship to John - Session(s) attended - Guest task completed - What the guest contributed to the build - A photo or two of the guest at work (if available)
Also include a brief reflection: What did having guests add to the experience?
Suggested length: 1–2 pages, include the Guest Participation Log table from the journal
8. Challenges & Problem Solving
Describe at least three specific challenges encountered during the build. For each: - What was the problem - What caused it - How it was solved - What was learned from it
Examples: an epoxy void that needed repair, a panel that didn't fit right, glass work that required sanding back
Suggested length: 1 page
9. Skills Gained
List and briefly describe the technical and professional skills developed this semester. Consider: - Stitch-and-glue construction technique - Epoxy mixing and application - Fiberglass wetout and layup - Fairing and surface prep - Marine paint systems - Custom interior carpentry - Hardware installation - Project management across 18 sessions - Documentation and journal writing - Teaching and guest facilitation
Suggested length: 1 page
10. Results
- Describe the completed hull
- What was actually finished by December 10 vs. the original plan?
- Include the final beauty shots — multiple angles of the completed, painted Scoughxxuene 2.0
- Any specs or measurements worth noting (actual beam, final weight estimate, etc.)

11. Analysis
Honest assessment of the semester's work: - What went well and why - What could have been done better - Were there any phase checkpoint failures that required rework? - Did the USA-made sourcing goal get met? How close? - What was the quality of the finished hull?

12. Conclusion
- Summary of the semester: what was built, what was learned
- Reflect on the SMART goal — was it met?
- Personal reflection: what does it mean to have built a boat from scratch?
Suggested length: Half to 1 page
13. Future Plans — Spring 2027
- Overview of the Spring 2027 Power Install for Scoughxxuene 2.0
- What still needs to happen before the boat is in the water
- What John is most looking forward to in the next semester

Report Formatting Guidelines
- Title page: Report title, John's name, date
- Table of contents
- Section headings as shown above
- Photos integrated within sections (not all at the end)
- Photo captions on every photo
- Minimum 10 pages of content, not counting photos
- Written in first person, professional tone
- Proofread before submission
